As part of a review into the Isle of Man Education and Training functions, the Department of Education Sport and Culture seek your views on policy principles around the provision of support for vocational training. The responses will be used to inform the policy required to develop a new proposed Vocational Training Assistance Scheme (VTAS).
You said
- 194 responses were received
- 46% were on behalf of an organisation
- 30% were from individuals employed full time
- 63% of respondents believed a principle of the scheme should be support for individuals and 76% believed a principle was to make access to training affordable
- Some respondents felt they had been penalised by the current scheme as they were working for Isle of Man Government
We did
All responses received during the consultation have been considered and will be utilised to develop the scheme with a view to stimulate growth in the Isle of Man economy. Within the Island Plan, the Department has committed to this scheme’s review by December 2022.

Overview
As part of a review into the Isle of Man Education and Training functions, the Department of Education Sport and Culture seek your views on policy principles around the provision of support for vocational training. The responses to this consultation will be used to inform the policy required to develop a new proposed Vocational Training Assistance Scheme (VTAS).
The principal purpose of providing financial assistance under the VTAS is to develop the skills of the Island's workforce in order to stimulate wider economic benefits (revenues, jobs, profits, expenditure in the local economy) and associated fiscal benefits (direct and indirect taxes) which are far in excess of the cost of the support provided.
