Proposed amendments to the Food Information Regulations 2014 regarding the labelling of allergens and country of origin
Overview
The Food Information Regulations 2014 (Isle of Man) applies certain provisions of European Regulation 1169/2011 on the provision of food information to consumers, including:
- the mandatory indication of the country of origin or place of provenance of foods and;
- mandatory requirements to provide information regarding allergens present in finished food products
Why your views matter
The Department is consulting to seek views from members of the public, food business operators and those working in the food industry with regards to the proposal to:
- enable an Improvement Notice to be served where the country of origin or place of provenance of the primary ingredient is not provided, when required and;
- Place a duty on food businesses to label ‘pre-packed for direct sale’ (PPDS) foods with the name of the food and full ingredients with the allergens emphasised
The Department welcomes responses to the following questions, along with any additional comments that you consider may be of relevance.
