I am concerned firstly about the amount of traffic a large development on this site. The proposal to gave vehicular exits onto the Peel Rd at the rugby club, by Braddan school and through Tromode Woods would exacerbate the current heavy traffic problems, particularly at peak times. The roads in the Tromode Woods estate can barely cope with the traffic from the houses on the development, and would certainly not be sufficient to support more traffic. It would be detrimental to the nature of the development, families with young children, and also worsen the current difficulties of exiting onto Ballafletcher Rest all times of the day, particularly at peak times.
The situation would be further worsened by traffic exiting onto Braddan School Rd and further along on the Peel Rd. There is often heavy congestion in these areas in the morning and at Quarterbridge and Braddan Bridge in the evenings. I dread to think what it would be like when roads are closed and the additional vehicles are trying to get onto the access road. I feel it would also adversely affect the children attending Braddan school who already have to cross an extremely busy road to get to the school.
Having lived in Tromode for 12 years I would challenge the claim that there are numerous bus routes with regular services at peak times. This assumes firstly that everyone is travelling into the centre of Douglas which would certainly not be the case. I work in the Business Park and I have no option for taking public transport.
My second concern would be the lack of amenities available. There is no local shop, or play area, the nearest surgery is governor's hill, and has the potential for Braddan school to absorb the additional potential I take been considered?
Myfinal concern is an aesthetic one. There are a number of benefits to living on the Isle of Man and surely one if the greatest is its unique blend of culture, community and scenery. There are not many places where you can live close to a bustling centre yet still have open country side on your doorstep. By developing the green spaces that give the island its lovely sense of openness and beauty, I believe would adversely affect the unique beauty that the island has to offer.
