Religious Education

1. Do you agree that Religious Education should be treated the same as any other curriculum subject through the curriculum regulations?

Radio button: Unticked Yes
Radio button: Ticked No

Your comments
There should be a very clear definition between the sciences, maths and fact based subjects over faith based subjects.

Faith and superstition should be subjects that are studied in terms of anthropology.

2. Do you agree that the role of the Religious Education Advisory Committee is no longer required?

Your comments
We now live in a secular society, if parents wish to pass on their religious views to their children (what ever religion) - that is perfectly fine and up to the parents, but there should certainly be no religous input when it comes to something as important as education.

Anyone that can't accept evolution as fact should have absolutely no input regarding the education of children.

Radio button: Ticked Yes
Radio button: Unticked No

Your comments
We live in a secular society, it should be absolutely essential that no religious dogma of any kind is taught to children when they are at such a vulnerable age.

Radio button: Unticked Yes
Radio button: Unticked No

Your comments
Governing bodies in education should clearly have no religious affiliations

8. Do you have a recommendation on the number of governors and how long they should serve on the governing body?

Please select one item
Radio button: Ticked Yes
Radio button: Unticked No
If so, how many governors and for how long should they serve.
I think some for of governing is a good idea - perhaps three in number and serve for a period of three years, folks that have served the educational establishments as teachers should only be valid for this role.

Home education

9. Should the Department seek evidence from home educators on the education they are giving to their children?

Please state your reasons.
It is essential that home educated children are taught about the sciences - especially factual information on subjects such as evolution, rather than children being 'unseen' by the authorities and perhaps being taught about 'intelligent design' and other superstitions instead of scientific fact.

School Attendance

10. Do you agree with this proposal?

Your comments
This is a ridiculous proposal, how is it possible for parents on low incomes to take time off work to supervise children at home who should be provided with an education that we all pay taxes to provide?

Children being suspended from school could be seen as a failure of the education system, not always the parents.

Whoever suggested this ridiculous proposal is not in touch with reality and should be 'put out to grass' - seriously, how is such a stupid and ridiculous question even being given space in an 'official' Isle of Man Government sponsored survey?

The person who has wasted tax payers money allowing such a stupid question on this consultation really needs to take a long hard look at themselves!!!!

Catchment Areas

13. Should children always attend their catchment area school unless their needs cannot be met by the school?

Your comments
Makes perfect sense that children should attend schools in their catchment area if their needs are met by their 'local' school.

If there are special educational needs that can be accommodated better by another school - then I would be happy for this to happen.

Faith based schools should be completely banned on the Isle of Man and never allowed to fall into this category for needs not being met by any schoo.

Final thoughts

Please state any additional comments you have regarding this consultation.

Type any additional comments you may have.
Some ridiculous 'Victorian era' questions on what is supposed to be an official government consultation for a country supposedly as 'modern' as the Isle of Man - but I'm very happy to be given a contribution as an almost 50 year old manxman :)
