Overview

The Department of Education, Sport and Culture (DESC) is required to produce an Additional Education Needs (AEN) Code of Practice to give relevant public authorities (principally schools, UCM and aspects of the Department) guidance on how to discharge their statutory duties with regards to AEN once the Education Bill becomes law.

What precisely constitutes Additional Education Needs is yet to be agreed, but the term Special Educational Needs is more widely recognised and is closely related.

Why your views matter

The purpose of the stakeholder survey is to gather views to inform the development of the Additional Educational Needs Code of Practice.  The Department is interested to know what stakeholders feel currently works well within Special Educational Needs arrangements and what could be improved within the new AEN framework.

What happens next

Thank you for your feedback.  The results of the survey will be passed to various DESC staff (including teachers, Heads and Departmental officers) involved with drafting the Code of Practice.  Those staff are required to have regard of the survey results as they draft their sections.
